Despite a challenging 2018, the fund has delivered fairly consistent long term absolute returns to investors while displaying very low correlation to wider UK equity markets, providing investors with meaningful diversification. Attribution data from BlackRock shows that half of the drawdown YTD is attributable to one stocks (BATS), which despite near term headwinds the team remain constructive on in the long term. For investors looking to gain exposure to UK equities in a robust and highly risk managed format then the BlackRock UK Absolute Alpha merits closer attention. With a peak to trough drawdown of just 3.3% since the team took over and a current net market exposure of c.15% the fund should be well placed to conserve capital in a more challenging environment for equities.
